Protein Polymer Technologies' goal is to create products that aid in the natural process of bodily repair, including the healing of tissue, and the restoration or augmentation of its form and function. Within this context, PPTI's biomaterials, and the proprietary technology platform upon which they are based, create the potential to develop a variety of new products for use by physicians and surgeons. However, development of medical products is an expensive and time consuming process. In addition, there is significant competition in the medical products field, and considerable pressure exists to control health care expenditures. Therefore, PPTI is focusing the Company's resources on developing products that serve large markets, and that offer substantial value as compared with the existing standards of care and the known competition.

PPTI's current development efforts are focused primarily on products to augment the body's soft tissues. Key markets include the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence and the correction of facial contour deficiencies due to aging and disease ("cosmetic applications"). Other markets of interest to PPTI are being evaluated in relation to the Company's tissue adhesive and sealant technology, scaffold technology for wound healing and tissue engineering, and drug delivery technology.
